The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 题材内容确实让人想起《罗马》，但格局和诗意差太多，不是精巧的构图设计可以填补的
陪女儿第一次去电影院看的电影，她喜欢就好。
7.2 有点像《乔乔的异想世界》也有点像《元首的粉兔子》但没有这两者好。在宗教矛盾下一个街道中的96号家庭的命运，是留守还是离开，聚焦点不准，情绪太散，过度全部用音乐简单的处理，显得稚嫩而单一。但巴比真的很可爱，音乐也很好听。
大社会历史背景下的小童家庭生活流。前方的fork不可避免，向左还是右，已经忘了哪个good 哪个bad ，留下的和迁徙的，都有值得纪念的人生。。小男孩演的好！。。BGM用的有点过多，总是把情绪荡上去，没有安静的力量。老电影穿插也不少，可能导演也是迷影怀旧的。局部影像构图挺好，黑白片必须找点优势。。。就，不知为啥大家把这部跟《罗马》对比，难道黑白的形式，历史社会题材就一定要比比？评:3.7星
过分自我的影片，并不难以理解，但是难以跟随。
大背景、小人物、童年视角和乡愁的老配方，那场骚乱更像是强加的戏剧动力，个体裹挟其中的层次处理得简单又混乱。比较真诚动人的是小男孩一家人相处的点滴，电影里的牛仔主持公正，飞车渡过难关，现实中离开的和留下的都是时代洪流里的浮木。孩子关心的本该是座位的远近，要做的选择确实海的这边和那边。
给我家孩子来评一评，必须给五星，很喜欢看汪汪队，家里各种玩具都堆满了
四岁的娃第一次看电影，全程不吵不闹，看懂了。宝宝应该会打5星。情节还挺不错的，大人也能陪着看下去不觉得无聊。
跟上两部阿婆的比也还是自恋，但是粉丝如我，对肯爵圈地自萌的容忍度其实要高很多；个人/集体回忆碎片的取舍还是有点问题，整体观感偏乏味。
最後半小時開始發力——Buddy和爺爺的對話、Buddy和奶奶的對話、媽媽和爸爸的對話，劇本寫的真好。近年英美作品看得比較多的是選擇不移民的（體現Community文化）以及新移民的不適，其實選擇移民前的糾結、對故土的眷戀，是最迷人也最心碎的狀態。小男孩表演很靈動，媽媽演技大爆發，Dornan一如既往的帥，爺奶穩（特別是Dench結尾處的Don't Look Back），希望拿下SAG群戲。

除了画面，爱尔兰口音，还是老演员还是比较有看头。剩下青年演员因为这个剧本，其实发挥程度有限。这个剧本弄成黑白的，我觉得毫无必要，弄成儿童视角，什么都拍了一点，但最后效果是弄得稀碎。男主唱歌、以及男女主角歌舞场景本来可以增色的，但是因为剧本不行反而那一段格格不入【并不是葬礼，不能歌舞。
编导肯尼斯布拉纳应该是从自己的童年经历中汲取了素材，所以才能有这么充满感情的细节，回忆中的片段时刻就像一首写给父母的散文诗，那分明是黑白光影下的乡愁，让人留恋不舍。
1969年的贝尔法斯特骚乱打破了九岁男孩平静的生活，曾经充满欢声笑语的街头搭起了战壕般的壁垒，不断寄来的账单让日子再次增添了一丝窘迫，只有戏剧和电影为黑白的童年带来了一丝色彩。对于肯导来说，这是一部非常私人的电影，在多伦多电影节首映场的Q&A一度潸然泪下。然而这样的主题，却以幽默的方式呈现给观众，让人捧腹不止。片中很多彩蛋也很好笑，尤其是雷神漫画，真的笑死，简直怀疑肯导想在里面藏一个自己的宇宙。
各种插曲配乐很棒，的确有点童年怀旧感，就是大人的世界很混乱孩子却依然能有小小的快乐和烦恼的状态
