The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 22_067。很可爱，谁不想把脸埋在一个大大的毛绒绒的温暖的生物上呢起码我挺想的只要我不用处理它掉的毛发和排泄物就行（……。但形象还是相当刻版就是了，几乎不存在的父亲，管制小孩行动学习和朋友，控制小孩一切的母亲，到后半剧情就是真的，可能就是针对观众比较低龄吧。另外我真的挺介意那段像粤语又不是粤语的是啥东东啊
有点浅，但对于迪士尼合家欢来说也足够了。想象力不错，女性成长过程中想要脱离原生家庭的那部分自我被具象化成红熊猫，东亚家庭母亲对子女的控制被描述为红月夜的作法仪式。但是电影太温和了，这种控制被美化成了爱与担心，女孩的逃离最后被升华为与自己的不完美和解。而现实中很多女孩遭遇的远比影片中激烈且沉重。
红头发好好看。七大姑八大姨念经的时候，还有最后在竹林意识里放弃红熊猫的时候，好感动，她们过去的经历和牺牲。毛毛的小熊猫的象征意义很好哎。电影里的人形好适合做元宇宙头像啊，希望能开发养成或者角色扮演游戏。完全可以直接出现在迪士尼乐园里了～这些青春期的叛逆最好不要以追星作为拉锯点，那亲情作为代价，回过头来看就会觉得不值得。
用熊猫代表本我的动物性，选华裔代表被压抑个性的群体，符号择取上有心思。红色、熊猫、竹林、旗袍、道场、祠堂、chinatown，中国元素使用得十分讨巧。最后一次仪式时粤语唱经声中渐入b-box，再叠加4-town的出场，可称神来之笔；同样让人拍手称赞的还有用首饰进行封印的构思。Pixar的创作人员应该都放飞了自己的red panda，才能每次都献出这么brilliant的创意；而中国的内容创作之所以如此疲软乏味，可能也是因为同样的原因——人不有趣，作品也难以有趣。
情节让人有共情感，大熊猫很可爱，没想到小熊猫也这么可爱，加一星
表达太强了，还能戴着可爱表相的隐喻，神了……从第一句就开始咬指甲揪头发抠地板了😅导演果然是大陆走出来的女孩子，每个东亚小孩都会感同身受，控制，期望，同化，冲突，无论和解与否，亲情的羁绊是世界上最无奈的东西。就这片子不应该抓住东亚市场，放映个3个月？→看了看评论，我对国人的期望还是太高了
好看好看好看！我就是这样长大的！不许去演唱会和犯花痴的桥段太有共鸣了！谁不能在这个妈妈身上找到一点自己妈妈的影子呢哈哈哈！仪式的疯狂走向我太喜欢了！片里各种粤语超标准发音也让人听着非常舒坦：新怡~~~

第一次有这么共情的皮克斯作品，看着看着就代入了，结果泪点比笑点还多。每一个东亚青春期女孩必经的情感的躁动与苦涩，化成了可爱与凶猛的红熊猫。这辈子能跟家人和解吗？这是最好的结果了。p.s.追星真的有治愈心灵的作用哈哈！

小熊猫真是太可爱了，胖胖的小女孩也是怎么看怎么令人怜爱。不同年龄段的人看这片估计感受差别很大，我这快三十岁的老阿姨只觉得生了个逆子，妈妈与其说是接纳的女儿的叛逆和自我，不如说是在和自己和解，劳心劳力为了女儿(除了wsj那段太刻意)，还要尊重孩子个人的愿望，奉献自己，成全儿女。
所有家长都应该与平庸的自己和孩子和解，美美的朋友们太好了😭演唱会氛围太棒了，五个爱豆天塌了还能继续唱歌业务能力好强哈哈哈哈

各方面都很优秀的作品，却不能进电影院看。迪士尼罪大恶极。
东亚的母女关系，因为搞不清楚Who I am 所以有时候是反过来的。我最喜欢的中国风，依然是功夫熊猫。
我说我怎么这么喜欢男团那首歌，原来是碧梨兄妹写的，体育馆那段流行乐+诵经绝了。中国风元素演绎的很棒！
你永远可以相信皮克斯，披着亚裔成长皮的女权片hhhhh释放被封印的小熊猫！以及，这个母女关系真的是过于像我和我妈引发不适
感觉是为了表达主题而表达，既不好笑，也不感人
亚裔女孩成长记，青春期的细节和隐喻都恰到好处，既有欢乐又有眼泪，比《李焕英》更有感动。
